1. Trace and write H
A solid letter to copy, then dashed guides, then blank handwriting rules. Capital H first, then lowercase h.
2. Find and color every H
A grid of mixed letters with H and h hidden through it. This builds recognition rather than handwriting, so it works before a child can write. Both cases appear. Plenty of children learn the capital and then do not recognize the lowercase.
3. Draw the H words
Three boxes, hat, house, horse, with the word to trace and room to draw it.
How to form the letter H
Capital H: Two tall lines with a bar joining them in the middle.
Lowercase h: A tall line down, back up halfway, then a hump to the right.
Say the movement out loud while your child writes. Naming the strokes does more than showing them.
Watch for: Lowercase h and n differ only in height. Writing them side by side makes the difference obvious.
What sound does H make?
A breath rather than a voice, as in hat. Silent in hour and honest.

Chalk letters on the ground and hop only on the H.
