How to form the letter P

Writing Pp
How to write the letter PThe letters P and p drawn on handwriting rules, with numbered marks showing where each stroke starts.capital12lowercase12

Capital P: A line down, back to the top, then one curve out and in at the top half.

Lowercase p: A line down below the baseline, then a circle at the top right.

Say the movement out loud while your child writes. Naming the strokes does more than showing them.

Watch for: p and q are mirror images, and p and b differ only in whether the tail goes up or down. Naming the direction of the tail every time is what works.

What sound does P make?

A puff of air, as in pig. Silent in psalm.
