1. Trace and write V
A solid letter to copy, then dashed guides, then blank handwriting rules. Capital V first, then lowercase v.
2. Find and color every V
A grid of mixed letters with V and v hidden through it. This builds recognition rather than handwriting, so it works before a child can write. Both cases appear. Plenty of children learn the capital and then do not recognize the lowercase.
3. Draw the V words
Three boxes, van, vase, violin, with the word to trace and room to draw it.
How to form the letter V
Capital V: Two slanted lines meeting at a point at the bottom.
Lowercase v: The same, smaller.
Say the movement out loud while your child writes. Naming the strokes does more than showing them.
Watch for: v and w differ only by one more point, and v is sometimes written as u. The sharp bottom point is the thing to insist on.
